"Blacksmithing Clinic"
July 23 and 24, 2011
On July 23 and 24, the Valley Arts Alliance and the Association of Alaskan Blacksmiths conducted a Blacksmithing Clinic at Arctic Fires Bronze in Palmer.
This “hands on” clinic covered tool making, joinery, forge welding, forging animal heads and more, and was taught by nationally recognized blacksmith and artist Brian Brazeal. The clinic was designed for beginners interested in learning blacksmithing, and advanced smiths seeking to improve their skills.
This clinic was funded in part by a generous grant from the Alaska State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Roy Bloom has been a Certified Journeyman Farrier for over 25 years and is known as one of the best farriers and tool makers in the US. Roy understands the principles behind the tools smiths and farriers use every day, and through his company Bloom Forge of Drummond, Wisconsin, Roy develops forging and shoeing tools that work!

Gordon Williams has been blacksmithing since 1990, and operates Victory Forge in Arizona. His May 25 class, Artistry in Blacksmithing, demonstrated a variety of techniques to expand blacksmithing skills and inspire creativity.
To celebrate and promote the blacksmith art in North America, Pieh Tool has helped sponsor Gordon Williams on a 3 month epic adventure to gather tips, tricks and techniques from master blacksmiths along a 4000 mile route from Fairbanks, Alaska to the Grand Canyon.
Shayne Carter is a past winner of the World Blacksmithing Championship, and an all around blacksmith, farrier, tool maker and knife maker. His July 13 class concentrated on Damascus-type knife making.

Gösta is a professional Blacksmith from Berlin, Germany who has placed in the top ranks of the International Blacksmithing championships in Europe. Gösta demonstrated his techniques for designing and forging artworks, such as this decorative wrought iron piece.

The Valley Arts Alliance assisted the Association of Alaskan Blacksmiths in presenting a steel making workshop using a brick hybrid tatara furnace at Arctic Fires Bronze, 15615 Outer Springer Loop in Palmer over the May 28 and 29 weekend.
Wayne Potratz is an artist from Minneapolis, Minnesota, who authors instructional videos and teaches classes. At Arctic Fires Bronze, Wayne demonstrated his techniques for creting steel from iron ore.

On July 23 and 24, the Valley Arts Alliance and the Association of Alaskan Blacksmiths conducted a Blacksmithing Clinic at Arctic Fires Bronze in Palmer.
This “hands on” clinic covered tool making, joinery, forge welding, forging animal heads and more, and was taught by nationally recognized blacksmith and artist Brian Brazeal. The clinic was designed for beginners interested in learning blacksmithing, and advanced smiths seeking to improve their skills.
This clinic was funded in part by a generous grant from the Alaska State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.

The Valley Arts Alliance and the Association of Alaskan Blacksmiths were proud to co-host a Blacksmithing Clinic by Roy Bloom at Arctic Fires Bronze, 15615 Outer Springer Loop in Palmer on July 14 and 15.
Roy Bloom has been a Certified Journeyman Farrier for over 25 years and is known as one of the best farriers and tool makers in the US. Roy understands the principles behind the tools smiths and farriers use every day, and through his company Bloom Forge of Drummond, Wisconsin, Roy develops forging and shoeing tools that work!
The photos above include three bronze statues recently completed at Arctic Fires Bronze by Pat Garley and Jeanne Young.

The Valley Arts Alliance and the Association of Alaskan Blacksmiths were proud to co-host Blacksmithing Clinics by Gordon Williams and Shayne Carter at Arctic Fires Bronze, 15615 Outer Springer Loop in Palmer on May 25 and July 13.
Gordon Williams has been blacksmithing since 1990, and operates Victory Forge in Arizona. His May 25 class, Artistry in Blacksmithing, demonstrated a variety of techniques to expand blacksmithing skills and inspire creativity.
To celebrate and promote the blacksmith art in North America, Pieh Tool has helped sponsor Gordon Williams on a 3 month epic adventure to gather tips, tricks and techniques from master blacksmiths along a 4000 mile route from Fairbanks, Alaska to the Grand Canyon.
Shayne Carter is a past winner of the World Blacksmithing Championship, and an all around blacksmith, farrier, tool maker and knife maker. His July 13 class concentrated on Damascus-type knife making.

Gösta is a professional Blacksmith from Berlin, Germany who has placed in the top ranks of the International Blacksmithing championships in Europe. Gösta demonstrated his techniques for designing and forging artworks, such as this decorative wrought iron piece.
Gösta demonstrated at Arctic Fires Bronze from 6:30 until 9:30.
